On Monday, February 23, the top four National Finalists in the 2026 Torres Brandy Zero Challenge competed in Miami for a chance to advance to the Global Final in Barcelona in April.
The 2026 Torres Brandy Zero Challenge, a Program of the USBG, called on Bar Owners, Bar Managers, and Bartenders to transform the hospitality sector by contributing sustainable projects and solutions with a positive impact for companies, people, and the planet. In its fourth year (third in the US), the Torres Brandy Zero Challenge is a global competition that seeks the best sustainable projects in the hospitality industry.
Please join us in celebrating this year’s winner, Alexis Ortega, and his innovative project, Second Press Citrus.
Inspired by the realization that a significant amount of usable juice and flavor is lost due to time, labor, and shelf-life limitations, Alexis set out to create a smarter, more sustainable solution. His concept transforms upcycled citrus into high-quality cordials and clarified juices through a shared infrastructure model.
Second Press Citrus operates as a closed-loop system: collecting post-service citrus from bars, centrally processing it, and returning a consistent, shelf-stable product back to bars.
Good luck Alexis as you travel to Barcelona to represent the US in the 2026 Torres Brandy Zero Challenge Global Final!
Special thanks are being sent to everyone who assisted with the US National Finals – Yadira Diaz (Judge), Renato Tonelli (Judge), Alejandro Carro (Emcee), Emma Kuhl (Chapter Lead), Ryan Cohen (Photographer), and the entire Staff at Amara at Paraiso.
We appreciate everyone who attended the US National Final event to cheer on the Finalists!
