USBG Regional Conferences provide valuable education, training, and opportunities to learn from others and improve your own skills and knowledge in the hospitality industry. Each year, these conferences are filled with stimulating seminars from individuals that not only inspire us, but also educate and build community amongst bartenders and industry professionals alike!

Each conference offers a slightly different agenda, based on feedback received from different chapters in those regions regarding topics they want to learn more about. Agendas for all conferences will be available at least one month in advance, so check back often!

SOUTH

MENTAL HEALTH AID FOR SERVICE WORKERS presented by Mara Bethel – This seminar gives you the skill to identify risk factors and warnings for mental health challenges/crisis and unbalanced substance abuse use and provide appropriate assistance and skilled care.

CRAFT FLAIR TECHNIQUES presented by @Marco Montaguano – Craft flair techniques are functional movements or tricks using different bar tools (jiggers, barspoons, shakers, mini shakers, strainers, straws, napkins, bottles) to entertain your guests with something fun and engaging.

LATIN AMERICAN COCKTAILS presented by Marco Montaguano – Learn more about the great impact of Latin American spirits in the global cocktail community.

INGREDIENTS MATTER: A Guide to Drinking Well presented by @Randy Tarlow – This seminar covers the importance of choosing quality ingredients when making cocktails. Examining spirits, liqueurs, syrups, and ice, why we choose fresh and premium vs artificial products and how these ingredients affect the taste and presentation of cocktails. Attendees will leave with the understanding of how the expense for better products is justified, why they can charge more on their menus because of improved ingredients, and ultimately be proud of the end product they are serving guests over the bar.

 

SOUTHWEST

HOW MONEY WORKS presented by @Makeda Gebre – In this seminar, we will discuss key elements to understand how money works, 7 Money Milestones, and more.  This presentation will be an imperative with key takeaways on taxation, interest, compounding growth, how to protect your wealth now and in the future. And what it looks like to act now.

HAPPY HOUR HISTORY presented by @David Mayne – In this seminar, David Mayne will share an overview of many interesting connections that alcohol and certain cocktails have had on human history. Learn more about the birth and evolution of cocktails from a culturally inclusive prospective. The seminar will conclude by making the case that hospitality and the crafting of fine drinks can be an enjoyable way to embrace and celebrate all cultures in an increasingly globalized world.

ONTOLOGICALLY SPEAKING, YOU’RE LEAVING MONEY ON THE TABLE presented by Alison Anne – What if I told you that you could make more money and enjoy your work more all by making a single decision? No matter how great/terrible your customers, co-workers, or night’s sleep are, you get to control how your shift goes. Come learn about Ontology, and leave feeling REALLY good about yourself!   

GROW YOUR SIDE PROJECT INTO A BUSINESS presented by Randy Tarlow – Many bartenders are working on lucrative business ideas or valuable products but may feel discouraged as they are “stuck” behind the bar. Randy Tarlow created Liquid Alchemist syrups in his kitchen between bar shifts, eventually becoming a nationally distributed company. Randy will share his story of hard work and dedication to establish his business and the steps it took to grow from the kitchen to a national footprint. He will give examples and tips on business strategy, product development, distribution, financial planning, and more. Attendees will leave the seminar with the knowledge and understanding of what it takes to make their dream a reality.
