What first inspired you to enter the Make it Exotico Competition?
One of the very first cocktails I ever made. I wanted to revamp it and perfect it. Entering the Exotico competition seem like the great way to test it out, plus Exotico has always been one of my favorite spirits. How has your experience with Exotico helped you grow as a competitor and bartender?
It's helped me in so many ways! It was the first competition I ever did where I was presenting to the crowd and not just the judges. I had to really be able to broaden how I presented and explained my cocktail. Making it to the finals taught me a lot about myself: How to carry myself as a bartender and competitor, and to really take pride in the cocktail I created.
What advice would you give to future Exotico competitors?
Enjoy every minute of the experience!! It is great to have the oppertunity to work with a quality spirit like Exotico. Really think about your cocktail, why you're creating it, the story behind it, why you are choosing to use Blanco or Reposado. Find a way to really bring the cocktail, story and presentation to life. What was the best part of your experience?
The experience as a whole was amazing! I'm not sure I can pick a best part. Winning while at Tales, having the chance to meet a fourth generation of the Gonzalez family, having the honor of competing against some of the greatest bartenders I've ever met. Truly amazing people!!
