What hobby do you enjoy so much that it makes you lose track of time? Anything involving organization and/or creating and implementing systems - whether it be in my personal or professional life. Efficiency and being set up for success are at the core of the way my mind operates. There is always a more efficient way to streamline operations, and I can lose hours at a time dedicated to figuring out exactly what that way is. The gratification and pay off are unmatched, though - the hours lost then are countless hours gained in the future.
What do you enjoy most about being in the hospitality industry? I know it sounds cliché, but I am truly one of those crazy people that loves it all - the good, the bad, and the ugly. No two days are exactly the same, so the fear of the job becoming monotonous are nil. I'm an extremely extroverted person so the vast abundance of human interaction we get to experience is food for my soul. I absolutely love the fast paced hustle - I'm the type to never sit still, always thinking about the next 5 steps ahead, so the physical demand of the industry is perfect. If I had to pick one absolute favorite, I'd say it's the eccentric camaraderie of it all - it's this completely different lifestyle, schedule, understanding of verbiage, shared trials and triumphs, and plethora of stressors that only the 'in' know - that brings the most vastly different type of people all together as one, and I think that's pretty damn beautiful. I've formed lifelong friendships with some incredible people during my 19 years of doing this, and I can say with confidence that without the unifying elements of the industry, I wouldn't have those.
