@Minh Nguyen, USBG Programs Assistant
What does your professional background look like?
I have been a professional bartender for the past seven years, and before that, I spent several years working at Dell and then Apple in Austin. I love the personal aspect of the hospitality industry and haven't looked back since I started.

How long have you been on Staff and/or involved with the USBG?
I have been a member of the Houston USBG for over six years!

Where do you live?
Houston, Texas

How did you first get connected to the USBG?
I started casually bartending in 2014, and then less than a year later, a close friend of mine opened a really beautiful bar. He asked me to come help him. I knew I needed to greatly improve my knowledge and acumen on the subject, so I hopped on Google and searched for local bartending groups here in Houston. The United States Bartenders' Guild was one of the first results, and I joined on a leap of faith (and the company credit card!). I remember attending my first USBG event shortly after, and the rest is history!

Got any hobbies?
I love watching movies, sleeping, reading, traveling, and especially EATING!

What's your favorite self-care practice?
There is nothing better than that long hot shower after a twelve hour bar shift.

What's your favorite drink?
Ice cold sparkling water - the more aggressive the carbonation, the better.

What's it like working remotely?
The commute is unbeatable, and I haven't put on a pair of long pants yet!

Any recent work-related accomplishments you're especially proud of?
I received a really good Yelp review recently! I am also particular proud of some of the "bad" ones I've gotten.

How do you transition out of Work Mode and into Non-Work Mode?
After I clock out from the USBG, I clock in at my bar (The Toasted Coconut). The strenuous high-volume shifts helps me clear my head, get in some exercise, and keeps me grounded. Working at the bar provides me the ground level insight needed to make a greater impact within my role at the USBG.

Is there anything unique about yourself you'd like to share?
My idea of a perfect first date is a trip to the grocery store. You can learn all you need about someone browsing the aisles for groceries.

Tell us a joke!
Comic Sans, Helvetica, and Times New Roman walk into a bar... “Get out!” shouts the barman. “We don’t serve your type here!”
